Wanda Simmer

Wanda Simmer ( nee Wilkowski ) , age 91, peacefully passed away on February 10, 2016. She was born in 1924, in Lorain, Ohio, to Walter and Anna Wilkowski. Wanda was a member of the Nativity of the BVM School class of 1938 and graduated from Lorain High School in 1942. She received a degree from the Oberlin Business College. After leaving Lorain's 18th Street neighborhood, Wanda lived for over 56 years on Highland Park Blvd in Lorain before moving in 2004 to Community Drive in Avon Lake, OH. Wanda worked as a secretary at USS ( main office 1944-1952 and the Bar Mills 1969- 1986). Throughout the years, she raised her three children, organized family gatherings, and took pride in her home on Highland Park. Wanda is survived by her three children, David ( Avon Lake, OH ), Nancy ( Saint Petersburg, FL ), and Karen ( Fort Worth, TX ). Wanda was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Lt. Col. Victor Wilkowski, Helen Wilkowski, Olga Polcyn and Attorney Arthur Wilkowski. A memorial mass for family and friends will be held at a later date at Lorain Nativity BVM Church. Burial services will be private. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Nativity BVM Church at 418 West 15th Street, Lorain, Ohio, 44052, or Crossroads Hospice 9775 Rockside Rd.
