Ruth Sepsenwol

RUTH M SEPSENWOL 1911-2013 Ruth Mayer Sepsenwol, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully in Charlotte NC on November 29, 2013. She was 102. She was born Ruth Mayer on July 14, 1911, in Lorain, the fifth of six children of Helen and Max Mayer. She married Isadore ("Itzie") Sepsenwol on November 25, 1937 and shared 63 years of marriage before his death in 2000. Ruth was at the center of the Lorain Jewish Community, serving as secretary, bookkeeper and generally acknowledged "mother" of the Agudath B'nai Israel congregation for 63 years. She also taught ABI Sunday school and Hebrew school for many years and was active in the ABI Sisterhood and Hadassah organizations. She took her spiritual strength from Judaism, and sang the blessing over the Sabbath candles with her children and their children the last Friday of her life. She was known for many "Ruth traditions" in the family and community, including her orany galushka, a Hungarian pastry, and hamentaschen, which she mailed around the country to her far-flung families and friends on holidays every year. She was also untraditional in many ways, using email and Skype to keep in touch with her extended family all over the world until she was 100. Ruth was a collector of people, a grandma, aunt, or sister to many beyond her own family. In 2009, she moved to Charlotte to live with her daughter, Leah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Isadore, her brothers Ignas, Morris, Joe and Harry, and Pearl, her beloved sister and companion of more than 100 years. She is survived by her daughter, Leah of Charlotte, and her sons, David of Southport NC, Sol of Stevens Point WI and Noah of Alexandria VA, and by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11 AM in Salem Cemetery, Sheffield Twp., Ohio 44055 with Rabbi Lauren Werber of Temple B'nai Abraham, Elyria, Ohio officiating.
