Ruth Myrtle Murphy

Ruth Myrtle Murphy (nee: Vick), 95 of Bay Village, Ohio died early Thursday morning, August 9, 2018 in O'Neil Health Care, Bay Village. She was born to the late Myrtle Laura (nee: Nichols) (who died in 1982) and Elmer Noyes Vick (who died in 1983) in Lorain on January 10, 1923. Mrs. Murphy made her home in Lorain until 1974 when she moved to Largo, Florida. She moved to Avon Lake, Ohio where she resided before moving to Bay Village. Mrs. Murphy graduated in the 1941B class of Lorain High School; she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the American Gold Star Mothers, Lorain Chapter, American Legion Auxiliary, No. 119, Largo, Florida and American Legion Auxiliary, Sheffield Lake, Ohio. She is survived by her son, Thomas Murphy, daughters, Patricia Rose and Peggy Biddle, five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death in 1996 by her husband, Lyle E. Murphy to whom she was married for over fifty years, her son John Murphy who was killed in Vietnam in 1968 and her brothers, Elmer, Richard and Paul. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 4 PM until 6 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Funeral services will follow at 6 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Charlie Swartz, pastor of Avon Lake Presbyterian Church officiating. By her request, she will be cremated with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, 32340 Electric Boulevard, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012.
