Ruth Eleanor Hansen

Ruth Eleanor Hansen (nee: Katz), 94 of Oberlin, Ohio, formerly of Lorain, Ohio died early Friday morning, June 29, 2012 at Kendal At Oberlin. She was born on April 1, 1918 in Osage, Iowa to the late Minnie (nee: Salzer) and Max Katz. Mrs. Hansen moved to Lorain in the 1940s with her husband, Howard, from Michigan. She taught kindergarten for twenty years before retiring in 1979. She resided in Lorain until she made her home at Kendal At Oberlin in 1994. Mrs. Hansen was a member of the First Congregational Church, Lorain. She also was a member of AAUW and the former Town Club. She was an avid reader. Mrs. Hansen enjoyed knitting and traveling. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Richard N. (Pam) Hansen of Denver, Colorado and Dr. Robert H. Hansen of Amarillo, Texas, her brother, Dr. Benjamin Katz of Twin Falls, Idaho, her grandchildren, Dr. Emily M. Zarybnisky, David T. Hansen, Jill Hansen and Timothy Hansen. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Floyd Hansen on December 9, 1977 and her sister, Miriam Millison. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5 PM until 7 PM in the WALTER A. FREY FUNERAL HOME, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Memorial services will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.
