Raymond Swanson, 85 of Lorain, Ohio died peacefully at home Sunday, August 6, 2017. He was born to the late Mary (nee: Adamovich) and Nicholas Swanichick on April 11, 1932 in Plains, Pennsylvania. Mr. Swanson was a 1950 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Plains. He served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner during the Korean conflict. He moved to Lorain where he made his home for the remainder of his life. Mr. Swanson was employed for thirty-one years with B.F. Goodrich; was part of the polymer development team who was responsible for several patented polymer materials before retiring in 1997. Mr. Swanson was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He loved gardening, golf, bowling and reading. He was a talented carpenter who designed and built 3 homes with his brothers and brother - in - laws. Mr. Swanson is survived by his wife, Jeanette Ann (nee:Szefcyk) Swanson to whom he was married on August 25, 1962; his son, Peter (Julie) Stodolak of Boynton Beach, Florida; daughters, Laura Stodolak of Phoenix, Arizona and Lisa (Greg) Baker of Jupiter, Florida, his grandson, Alexander Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stanley Adam Stodolak on May 8, 2008, his brothers, Charles, Michael and Eugene Swanson and Peter Krynack and his sister, Margaret Semanek and Joan Leonard. Friends will be received on Friday August 11 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home 700 West Erie Avenue Lorain, Ohio, 44052 where the rosary will be prayed at 6:00PM. Prayers will be said on Saturday August 12 at 9:15AM in the funeral home prior to the funeral mass which will be offered on 10:00 AM at Nativity BVM at 418 West 15 Street Lorain, Ohio with Reverend Fr. Robert Glepko celebrant officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with full military honors.
