John Wayne Hartley

John Wayne Hartley, 64 of Sheffield Village, Ohio died Friday, May 2, 2014 in the Autumn Aegis Retirement Community, Lorain, Ohio following a lingering illness. He was born to the late Columbia (nee: Endicott) and Lonnie Hartley on July 12, 1949 in Red Jacket, West Virginia. He came to Sheffield Village where he made his home for the past forty years. For twenty seven years, Mr. Hartley was employed at the Ford Motor Co., Lorain Assembly Plant before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the former UAW, Local 425 and the Galaxie Club of America. Mr. Hartley was actively involved in the flower fund raising for the American Cancer Society. He has a passion for working on cars, playing musical instruments and being with his grandkids. Mr. Hartley is survived by his wife of forty years Sally M. (nee: Showalter) Hartley, his son, Karl W. Hartley of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, brothers, Connard Hartley of Elyria, Ohio, Peter (Linda) Hartley of Grafton, Ohio and James Earl (Elease) Hartley of Red Jacket, sisters, Willa (Tom) Hackett of Plymouth, Michigan and Sandra Kaye Goad of Meador, West Virginia and grandchildren, Dylan, Hannah and Sarah. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by brothers, Sonny and David Allen Hartley and sister, Anita Coleman. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 6 from 2 PM until 4 PM and from 7 PM until 9 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 7 at noon in the First Congregational Church, 423 Washington Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052 with Rev. Karen M. Farthing, pastor officiating.
