Joanne D. Baxter (nee: Bailey), 87 of Lorain, Ohio died early Saturday morning, May 12, 2018 in Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, Lorain. She was born on August 10, 1930 in Montpelier, Ohio to the late Neva (nee: Gray) and Glen Bailey. In 1948 Mrs. Baxter married Paul with whom she moved to Athens, Ohio to pursue her studies at Ohio University. After her graduation in 1951, they moved to Lorain where she began her career as a teacher at Larkmoor Elementary School, retiring in the spring of 1985. Mrs. Baxter was a member of the former First Congregational Church for sixty four years. For many years she was a member of the church's Fellowship Supper Club and many other activities. She passionately taught Sunday school. Mrs. Baxter had the gift of verse which was manifested in the many poems which she wrote and published locally and nationally. Her family and friends catalogued several volumes of poems. She had an eclectic love and taste for music, both live and recorded. Mrs. Baxter visited her family throughout Ohio, Florida, California and New York. She enjoyed many bus trips with her husband. Mrs. Baxter is survived by her sons, David (Donna) Baxter of Lorain, Jeff (Joanne) Baxter of Elyria and Andy Baxter of Cleveland, Ohio, her sister, Linda Lou Moore of Montpelier and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baxter was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2013, her son, Thomas Scott in 2006, her brother, Everett and sister, Janet. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4 PM until 7 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Graveside service and interment will be 1PM Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Riverside Cemetery, 10650 OH-107, Montpelier, OH 43543. With Pastor Ben Harris of the House of Prayer, Montpelier.
