Eunice Kiddell Alpern

Eunice Kiddell Alpern passed away on April 21 in her Richmond, Virginia residence. She was devoted to her family, a mentor to many, as well as a beloved friend and inspiration to those who knew her. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 29, 1925. After graduating high school and business school in Chicago, she moved to Lorain, Ohio in 1949, following her marriage to Dr. Sol H. Alpern. Eunice managed her husband's optometric practice for fifty years. She had multiple leadership roles in the women's organizations associated with Lorain's Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue and volunteered at the Lorain County Free Clinic. She moved to Virginia to be closer to family in 2007. She thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from the fellowship, care, and community found at her new residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sol; parents Rae and Benjamin Kiddell; and sister Ruth Klein. She is survived by her two sons; Ron (Dr. Pamela Knapp), grandchildren Anna and Ben Alpern of Midlothian, Virginia; Gary and grandson Sean of Basel, Switzerland; in addition to the families of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Lorain community can join the family at a reception honoring Eunice immediately following Sabbath services on Saturday, August 6th at ABI Synagogue. A ceremony laying her to rest will take place at Salem Cemetery at 11 am Sunday, August 7th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be made to the Lorain County Free Clinic, Nord Mental Health Center Endowment at the Lorain County Community Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
