Esther C. Hunt, 103 of Oberlin, Ohio died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Kendal at Oberlin. She was born on February 14, 1911 in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a child, Miss Hunt moved to Lorain, Ohio where she made her home until she moved to Kendal at Oberlin in 1993. She was a 1927 graduate of Lorain High School. Miss Hunt attended Oberlin College for two years. She received her BS in Education from Ohio State University and her Master of Arts from Case Western Reserve University. From 1929 until 1945, Miss Hunt shared her passion for teaching children as a kindergarten and first grade teacher at the former Boone Elementary School, Lorain. Among her many students was Toni Morrison with whom she had always kept in contact. She was a member of the Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue, Lorain where she was a member of the Temple Sisterhood. Miss Hunt was a member of Hadassah International and all the teacher/education organizations. She loved reading and collecting antiques books and china. Miss Hunt was an avid traveler who often visited England where she purchased many antique children's picture books. Shop owners would have very rare books which she had purchased and donated to the book collection of Oberlin College. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Miss Hunt was preceded in death by her parents, Anna (nee: Schneider) in 1949 and Harry Hunt in 1922, her brother Stuart Hunt in 1950 and her sister, Selma Edith Hunt on May 30, 1989. Funeral services will be on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 2 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, Sheffield Twp., Ohio.
