Elsie K. Showalter

Elsie K. Showalter (nee: McGuire) 92 died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Avon Oaks Hills Nursing Facility following a six year illness. She was born on October 18, 1919 in Lorain, Ohio to the late Sarah Margaret (nee: King) and Michael McGuire. Mrs. Showalter lived in Sheffield Lake before moving in 1937 to Sheffield Village where she made her home until residing at Avon Oaks for the past two years. She was a 1937 Brookside High School graduate. Mrs. Showalter worked for the Federal Reserve Bank from 1937 until 1945; she worked in customer service for Lorain National Bank for twenty seven years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Lorain where she was a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Showalter was a dedicated flower fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Marie (John) Hartley of Sheffield Village, a grandson, Karl W. Hartley of Sheffield Lake and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, Karl Kienzler and an infant sister. Friends will be received on Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 2 PM until 4 PM and from 7 PM until 9 PM at the WALTER A, FREY FUNERAL HOME, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Funeral services will be Monday, December 19, 2011 at 2 PM with The Rev. Mrs. Vicki McGaw, interim pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
