Eleanore Volpe Simone (nee: Kenzik), 98 died early Thursday morning, April 3, 2014 of complications of Alzheimer's Disease in the home of her daughter, Elaine (Volpe) Barricklow, her primary caregiver with whom she resided for the last two years. Much appreciation is extended for the assistance of New Life Hospice, her nurse, Sue Goodell and her primary aides, Linda and April. She was born on February 15, 1916 in Lorain. Mrs. Simone worked for twenty years in the former Weitz Factory making men's topcoats. She earned her certificate, Title 9 for teaching at Fairhome Elementary. For twenty years she was a volunteer with St. Joseph Hospital's Pink Ladies. In addition to her daughter of Amherst, Mrs. Simone is survived by her husband, Frank to whom she was married on July 11, 1992, her grandchildren, Bryan (Melissa) Rust of Elyria and Melissa (Rust) Oleksa of Amherst, great grandchildren, Adam and Bryan, three great grandchildren, nephew, Ralph (Denise) Poor of Toledo, niece Mary Beth (Mike and their son, Sam) Toth of Sheffield Lake, step-son, Frank (Jane) Simone of Connecticut and step-daughters, Cathy (Chuck) Hounshell of Minnesota and Mary Jo (Ray Pietz) Simone of Oregon. She was preceded in death in 1991 by her first husband, Louis Volpe who was a prominent Lorain musician, her sister, Donna McQuattie and her nephew, Wayne Campana. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 4 PM until 7 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Interment is private.
