Dr. George Hamlin Hoke, 87 of Avon, Ohio formerly of Lorain, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, August 3, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 27, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Dorothy (nee: Hamlin) and George Alvin Hoke. Dr. Hoke was a prominent area neurosurgeon who gained extensive surgical experience while he served in the US Army. He established the very first Lorain County practice of neurosurgery in 1955; he retired in 1991. Dr. Hoke is survived by his wife Laurie (nee: Vasu), the love of his life to whom he was married for over sixty-five years; his children, Victoria Hoke Lane of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Martin R. (Maria) Hoke of Lakewood, Ohio; his sister, Patricia Hoke Burrow of Grand Junction, Colorado; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. The family cordially invites the community to a Memorial Concert celebrating the life of Dr. Hoke on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 6 PM in the George and Laurie Hoke Theatre in the Stocker Arts Center, Elyria, Ohio.
