Dallas Maxwell Griffith, 81 of Lorain, Ohio died Thursday evening, August 18, 2011 in Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness. He was born to the late Renda (nee: Woods) and Layden Uhel Griffith on December 30, 1929 in Slab Fork, West Virginia. Mr. Griffith moved in 1951 to Lorain where he made his home for the remainder of his life. He served as a Sgt. 1st Class, paratrooper and ranger in the U. S. Army during the Korean War; he was a prisoner of war. Mr. Griffith was a truck driver and factory worker for Moen, Elyria, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of sixty years Ruby Marie (nee: Smith) Griffith, his daughters, Karen M. Davis of Lorain, Judy L. (Curtis M.) Killen of Collins, Ohio and Sherry L. (Richard J.) Garza of Lorain, four grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many brothers and sisters. He loved listening to country music, fishing, camping and traveling; he built and raced cars. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 2 PM until 4 PM and from 6 PM until 8 PM in the WALTER A. FREY FUNERAL HOME, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 11 AM. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain with full military honors by the US Army Guard Unit and Louis Paul Proy Chapter, No. 20, DAV.
