Charles Keith Pyles, 82 of Lorain, Ohio died Saturday, November 20, 2010 in the ICU of Mercy Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born to the late Mildred Fay (nee: Spangler) and Noah Wesley Pyles on September 18, 1928 in Masontown, West Virginia. Mr. Pyles served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Salisbury, USS Saidor, USS Shangri La and the USS Rendova during the Korean Conflict. In 1960, Mr. Pyles moved from Masontown to Lorain where he made his home for the remainder of his life. He did maintenance work in area nursing home before retiring in 1993. Mr. Pyles loved camping, going on long drives, golfing, shooting pool and gardening. He did wood working; he made many bird houses. Mr. Pyles is survived by his son, Steven L. Pyles of North Ridgeville, Ohio, his daughter, Terry Lynn (Wildon B.) Mitter of Lorain, his brother, Tom (Vicky) McEwen of Florida, his sister, Lois Ann (Jim) Stephens of Florida, grandchildren, Duane, Samantha, Casey, Lindsey, Tyler, Jordan, Jeremy and Shelby and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo (nee: Overfield) in 2001 and his sister, Dorothy Davis. The family will received relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 2 P. M. until 4 P. M. and from 6 P. M. until 8 P. M. in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain 44052 where funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 11 A. M. with Pastor Steve Mayes of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Amherst, Ohio officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio with full military honors conducted by the Louis Paul Proy Chapter, No. 20, DAV, Lorain.
