Shirley I. Smith (nee: Flynn), 82 of Amherst Twp., Ohio died Thursday, March 29, 2018 in her home. She was born in Sterns, Kentucky on March 26, 1936 to the late Laura (nee: Owens) and Ira Flynn. Mrs. Smith grew up in Summerset, Kentucky where she made her home until she moved to Amherst in 1953. She married Burrel Norbert Smith to whom she was married for fourteen years before his death in 1988. Mrs. Smith had a passion for gardening and sewing quilts. She had an enduring love for her many dogs. Mrs. Smith is survived by her step-sons, Joseph Smith and Michael Smith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur, Norman, Horace, Quince and Raymond Flynn and her sisters, Stella Flynn and Nella Casada. Friends will be received on Friday, April 6, 2018 in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052 from 11 AM until 1 PM. Her funeral service will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home with The Rev. Mr. Farrell Keith, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Lorain officiating.
