Glenna Bates

Glenna Bates, age 89, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Born April 11, 1930 in Reedsville, West Virginia to the late Earl and Nellie (nee Costello) Smith. Moving to Lorain in 1950, she worked as a waitress and for the Lake Terminal Rail Road. Glenna attended the Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church and met regularly with the Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by Ernest Jefferson Bates, her loving husband of 49 years on July 26, 2007; daughters, Twila Wilcox and Loriann Bates; brothers, Melvin C., Fay M., Nelson F., Lee R., and Max C. Smith; sisters, Violet Braddock and Wanda Ward. Survivors include sons, Patrick (Melinda) Bates of Sheffield Twp. and David (Debbie) Bates of Philadelphia; daughter, Theresa (Albert) Comer of Lorain; sisters, Ethel Wozniak and Rose Fecik both of Lorain; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 2 to 5 PM at the Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio, where funeral service will be held Monday at 11 AM.
